How do I Download PSiRA certificate in PDF? Step-by-Step

If you came here to download your PSiRA certificate as a PDF, I have to give you the short answer first, because it has changed. You can no longer download it. The Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority has made the digital certificate view only. You can open it inside your profile and look at it, and you can scan the QR code printed on it, but there is no download button and no print option anymore.

What you can save and print instead is your proof of registration, which comes from the PSiRA App or the PSiRA website. If you need a physical certificate in your hand, you order an ink certificate from your own profile for R75 and collect it at a branch. Come with me and I will walk you through all three routes.

What is a PSiRA Certificate?

Before we go into the process we should be clear about what this document actually is. The PSiRA certificate is proof that you are registered as a Security Service Provider in terms of Section 21 of the Private Security Industry Regulation Act 56 of 2001. It is not a separate permit that you exchange for a licence later. Once you are registered, that registration is the authority you need to work in the industry.

The certificate carries your name, your ID number, your PSiRA registration number, your date of registration, your recognised training grade, the expiry date, and a QR code. Individual certificates are valid for 24 months. Security business certificates are renewed every 12 months.

The approval process takes 6 to 8 weeks. PSiRA will send you an SMS or an email once your registration has been approved. If that period passes and nothing arrives, contact PSiRA and log a query rather than waiting quietly.

Why the Download Button Is Gone

For a long time the portal did let you click Downloads and then Download Certificate, and the file saved to your device as a PDF. PSiRA removed that. Their reasoning is that a saved PDF goes out of date the moment your registration lapses, and an employer holding an old file has no way of knowing that. A live check always tells the truth.

So the certificate on your profile is now a preview only. You view it on screen. You do not save it and you do not print it.

I know this frustrates a lot of people, especially anyone who was asked to email a copy to an employer. The good news is that PSiRA gave employers a better document to ask for, and you can print that one.

How to View Your Digital Certificate

This is still worth doing, because it is where you confirm your grade and your expiry date.

Login to PSiRA at digitalservices.psira.co.za using your username and password, or use the OTP option if you have forgotten your password.
Your username is the mobile number you registered with, entered without the zero at the beginning.
Once you are on the dashboard, open your certificate preview.
Read your expiry date carefully. If you are inside 90 days of it, you can renew already.

If the login fails, use the OTP route first before assuming your profile is broken.

How to Get Proof of Registration, the One You Can Actually Print

This is the document that replaces the old PDF, and it is the one employers are now told to ask for. It includes a photo of you, which the old certificate did not, so it is harder to pass off as somebody else.

Download the PSiRA App from Google Play or the Apple App Store, or use the PSiRA website.
Log in with your profile details.
Open proof of registration.
Print it or save it.

Anyone can also confirm your status without you sending anything at all. Individual registrations are checked at digitalservices.psira.co.za/verify-user/4 and business registrations at digitalservices.psira.co.za/verify-user/8. Scanning the QR code on your certificate preview does the same job. You can also run a quick Certificate Check before you apply for a job so there are no surprises at the interview.

How to Order an Ink Certificate

If you want the printed certificate on paper, PSiRA brought these back in July 2025. It is optional, not compulsory.

Log in to your PSiRA profile.
Select Service Request, then certificate request.
Pay the R75 fee online. PSiRA reviews this amount every year, so check the current figure on your profile before you pay.
Make an online booking for collection. Every branch can print them, but you cannot walk in without a booking.
Collect it yourself. Training providers are not allowed to collect on your behalf.

If you are renewing at the same time, the renewal is R75 and printing is another R75, so R150 in total. Ink certificates are valid for 24 months, the same as your registration. They can be certified by a commissioner of oaths if an employer asks for a certified copy.

If your personal details change and you want an updated printed certificate, you pay R75 again for the reissue. If you lose it, you pay again as well, and you will need an affidavit explaining the reason for the reprint. That applies to the first and second reprint. A third reprint needs a written letter addressed to the Director for approval.

Why I Cannot Get My PSiRA Certificate

If you are logged in and there is nothing to view at all, work through these in order.

Your annual fees are outstanding. This is the reason I see most often and almost nobody mentions it. Annual fees are legislated, and while they are unpaid PSiRA will not provide a printed certificate or ID card, your full profile will not appear on the portal or the App, and you cannot renew. If it carries on, your registration can be suspended or withdrawn under section 26 of the Act. Settle the account and the profile opens up again.

Your registration has expired. A lapsed registration has no valid certificate behind it. Renew, then look again. You are allowed to renew 90 days before the expiry date, and the original expiry date still applies, so renewing early does not cost you time.

Your fingerprints or criminal record check are still pending. If your CRC status is not approved yet, the certificate is not generated. Fingerprints are submitted in person at a branch.

Your details are incorrect. If the information PSiRA holds does not match your ID, the record gets held until it is corrected. Take your documents to a branch and have it fixed.

It is a technical problem. Sometimes it really is just the portal. Try a different browser, then report it.

Can I Get My Certificate on WhatsApp?

No. There is no WhatsApp channel that sends out certificates, and anyone offering to send you one is not from PSiRA. On that note, PSiRA does not use agents and does not fast track applications for a fee. Every payment goes through your own profile on the digital services portal. If somebody at a taxi rank or in a WhatsApp group offers to sort out your registration for cash, walk away.
